August 16 1947 OTT release: Gautham Karthik’s period drama is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video

The movie helmed by NS Ponkumar hit the screens a month ago

Moviegoers were thrilled when AR Murugadoss launched his production endeavour on August 16, 1947, following a hiatus. It was advertised as a pan-Indian project, and Gautham Karthik was the star. It was described as a period drama set during the time before independence.

Many were attracted by the film’s original premise, which dealt with a topic that hadn’t been covered before. The narrative takes place in a community where residents suffer under the ruthless rule of a British commander who has no problem killing those who disobey his arbitrary and stringent instructions.

The cold-blooded officer chooses to keep the villagers’ knowledge of India’s independence from them and torment them for one more day. He also makes sure that two of the residents who learned about the news won’t be able to tell anybody else about it.

The rest of the narrative is determined by how the villagers respond to the officer and handle learning the most joyful news of their lives. Due to its lacklustre execution and uneven opening, August 16 1947 received mixed reviews from reviewers and spectators, even if the subject matter was well-chosen.

The movie’s female protagonist, played by rookie Revathy Sharma, also features crucial performances by Richard Ashton, Jason Shah, and Pugazh. The film’s soundtrack was written by Sean Roldan, and Selvakumar SK and Sudharsan R handled the cinematography and editing, respectively.

Amazon Prime Video currently offers streaming of August 16 1947. Gautham Karthik informed everyone about this on his Twitter page. A month ago, NS Ponkumar’s film debuted in theatres. After Pathu Thala, which also debuted on Amazon Prime a week ago, it is Gautham’s second appearance this year.
