Custody movie review: Naga Chaitanya’s action thriller “Custody” falls short with an abundance of subplots, lacking the punch needed for a lasting impact.

Venkat Prabhu’s much-anticipated film “Custody” brings together Naga Chaitanya and Arvind Swami in a unique collaboration. Departing from the typical hero-versus-villain formula, the movie takes an intriguing twist as Chaitanya’s character is driven by a noble mission—to safeguard and protect Swami’s character. Set within a tight timeframe of 48 hours, the film features intense chase sequences that keep the audience on the edge of their seats. However, despite its promising premise, “Custody” suffers from unnecessary subplots that slow down the narrative. To truly deliver its intended impact, the film could have benefited from a more relentless and concise storytelling approach.

Gas Leak Accident Claims 40 Lives: Constable Shiva’s Heroic Deed Goes Viral

In a tragic turn of events, a gas leak accident resulted in the untimely demise of 40 individuals. The incident serves as the opening for an upcoming film, setting the stage for an intense and action-packed storyline. The protagonist, Shiva (played by Naga Chaitanya), a dedicated constable known for his strong moral compass, makes headlines when he halts the chief minister’s convoy to make way for an ambulance, showcasing his commitment to serving the people.

Shiva, living with his parents and younger sister, finds love in the form of Revathi, a driving school instructor. Determined to marry against all odds, the couple decides to elope. However, fate has other plans for Shiva on the fateful night when he is meant to pick up Revathi. He becomes entangled in a road rage incident, leading to the arrest of the two individuals involved. To his astonishment, Shiva discovers that one of them is Raju, a notorious local hitman responsible for the CM’s dirty work. The other person involved in the altercation happens to be a CBI officer tasked with producing Raju in court the following day.

News quickly spreads about Raju’s capture, prompting the CM to dispatch a team with orders to eliminate him. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Shiva takes it upon himself to safely deliver Raju to the court, aware that powerful forces are determined to prevent justice from prevailing.

Despite its potential, “Custody” falls short of its promise, burdened by excessive and unnecessary scenes, including two lackluster songs featuring Chaitanya and Krithi Shetty. The film’s true potential lies in the gripping dynamic between Shiva, Raju, and their relentless pursuers. Once the story gains momentum around the 40-minute mark, it evolves into a riveting action-thriller, with standout sequences such as an adrenaline-pumping underwater scene that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. Unfortunately, the film’s tendency to deviate from the main plot to focus on Shiva and Revathi’s romance proves to be an unbearable distraction, detracting from the overall experience.

Naga Chaitanya delivers a commendable performance, embodying the role of Shiva with conviction and authenticity. However, it is Arvind Swami’s portrayal of Raju that truly steals the spotlight, injecting well-timed humor into the film’s tense moments. The chemistry between Chaitanya and Swami is palpable, leaving audiences craving for more exploration of their unlikely bond rather than wasting time on unnecessary romantic interludes. Regrettably, Sarath Kumar’s presence as part of the ensemble cast fails to make a significant impact, leaving much to be desired.

Despite its flaws, “Custody” remains an ambitious attempt, propelled by its lead actors’ performances and exhilarating action sequences. With tighter storytelling and a greater focus on the central plot, this film had the potential to be a gripping and unforgettable action thriller.
