The Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, which will be held in Dubai from February 14–19, will have a strong Indian presence led by world no. 8 HS Prannoy and gold medalist from the Commonwealth Games PV Sindhu. In order to choose a team that is capable of contending for a medal in the famous continental championship, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) once again adhered to the approach of selecting the best players directly and holding trials for the remainder of the squad.
The COVID epidemic forced the cancellation of the event’s last edition in 2021, and the Indian contingent would like to demonstrate their progress since 2019.
Lakshya Sen would be the team’s second male singles player, and Aakarshi Kashyap would back up Sindhu in the women’s singles division.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the men’s doubles winners from the French Open, will have to carry the load, with Krishna Prasad G and Vishnuvardhan Goud joining the squad as the second pair.
“We have chosen a highly good team that, on their best day, is capable of defeating any top country. Last year at the Thomas Cup, our men’s team shown what happens when they find their groove, and I am optimistic that this squad will do the same “said Sanjay Mishra, secretary of BAI.
Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, both All England semifinalist pairs, will serve as the primary women’s doubles team, with Tanisha Castro and Ishaan Bhatnagar likely to be selected for the mixed doubles.
