In the new “Evil Dead Rise” film, Lee Cronin explains how the apartment serves as the cabin.

While Scream VI this year takes Ghostface to New York City, the Evil Dead series’ most famous setting is also being left in the past with its most recent instalment.

On April 21, 2023, the sequel to Lee Cronin’s (The Hole in the Ground) Evil Dead takes the series to new heights with a setting within an apartment complex.

In other words, this time there won’t be a cottage in the woods. Certainly not as the focal point of the movie. Cronin previews the brand-new location in an interview with Empire Magazine.

According to Cronin, making the action “felt extremely natural to me.” We didn’t feel like, “We need Evil Dead in the city!” or anything like that compelled it. “I want a family, and I want it to be urban,” was the statement.

The director continues, “I still approached it very much the same way. I liken the halls and other parts of the building to the forest, and the flat to a log cabin.

What about the image of a bizarre, triangular structure tucked away in a spooky woodland location in the trailer? For the time being, Cronin is remaining mum regarding that enigmatic aspect.

I don’t want to talk too much about it, Cronin teases. It’s all a part of the investigation of a larger world, is all I can say about the aspect back out in the woods. And how the bad power may keep moving and passing without ever ever being eradicated.

Alongside Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan, Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence), Morgan Davies (The End), and Nell Fisher (Splendid Isolation) will appear in the new film.

Here is Evil Dead Rise’s official plot summary.

“In the fifth instalment of the Evil Dead series, a weary Beth makes a long delayed visit to her elder sister Ellie, who is responsible for raising three children alone in a small L.A. apartment. The sisters’ reunion is interrupted when a mysterious book found deep inside Ellie’s building summons flesh-eating monsters and forces Beth to engage in the most terrifying kind of parenting possible in a primitive struggle for survival.

Sam RaimiBruce Campbell and Robert Tapert are producing Evil Dead Rise. According to Campbell, the three have been “very involved” in the project every step of the way.
