India beat New Zealand handily in the third one-day international, moving up to the No. 1 spot in the global rankings.

In the first two One Day Internationals between India and New Zealand, India prevailed. In the third ODI, played in Indore, they have already defeated the Kiwis by 90 runs.

The Indian cricket team crushed the New Zealand squad by 90 runs in the third one-day international on Tuesday, sweeping the series 3-0. With this victory, the Indian squad has surpassed England, who is currently ranked second, to take over as the world’s best ODI team. New Zealand is pushed to fourth place in the meanwhile.

India made a respectable total of 385 runs when batting first, including hundreds from Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Devon Conway scored 138 off 100 balls as New Zealand responded by being all out for 295 in 41.2 overs. Conway caused death in the game and kept his team in contention. When India was invited to bat at the Holkar Cricket Stadium by the visitors, Rohit struck 101 runs off 85 balls, and Gill added 112 runs off 78 balls.

After the opening pair scored 212 runs in 26.1 overs, Virat Kohli added 36 from 27 balls. Later, Hardik Pandya led India with a 38-ball 54. India had a strong start in the bowling as Pandya struck out Allen. Before the latter left, Conway and Nicholls hit brilliantly. When India was having trouble with New Zealand, Shardul arrived and got three wickets in two overs, ejecting Mitchell, Latham, and Phillips. When Kuldeep gave Bracewell back and Umran received Conway, it only became a formality as India closed the show.

India clean sweep New Zealand for the third time

Notably, this is India’s third straight ODI series sweep over New Zealand. India’s 4-0 victory against New Zealand in India in 1988–89 was the first of them. The second time, again in India, India triumphed by a score of 5-0.

Prior to the match, India shared third place with England and New Zealand in terms of rating points (113), however it has now risen to the top spot. The current ratings leader is Rohit’s team with 114, followed by England with 113, Australia with 112, and New Zealand, who held the top rank prior to this series, in fourth place with 111 ratings.

Shardul Thakur has been named Player of the Match for deciding the game in the latter stages of the second innings. To stun the New Zealand camp, he grabbed three wickets. Shubman Gill, who scored 360 runs in the innings, including 200, is awarded player of the series.
