Jersey is a Hindi-language sports drama film written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. Being his Hindi directorial debut and the remake of his 2019 Telugu film of the same title Jersey. It stars Shahid Kapoor as a former cricketer who returns to the game for his son’s wish of a jersey, alongside Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapoor. Arjun Talwar (Shahid Kapoor), an unemployed, middle-aged father, clearly knows his love for cricket because his child has the same dream, following which he asks his father for gifting him a Jersey. While Arjun is struggling to fulfill his son’s wish and Mrs.Talwar’s,Vidya (Mrinal Thakur) wants to get his old job back. But Arjun wants to step back into the realm of his long day dreams.
When he decides to start the second inning of his career, Vidya is asked to choose one of two impossible options. What will Arjun choose? If he goes to cricket, will Vidya still support him? With pieces of unfulfilled promise, a father decides to start his life again, and what happens next is about the jersey.
Jersey retains the original director of its predecessor in the Telugu version. Like Sandeep Reddy Wanga in Kabir Singh, Director Gautam Thinnanuri of Jersey leads the ship on the Hindi version. This is how a movie should be modified, asking the same mastermind to do the trick once again, but with different objects.
A story that depicts the journey of a character from beginning to end, sows even a drop of hope in many miserable lives. Anil Mehta brings his usual best into the scenes, apart from the sports scenes because they are considered like a game with some close ups. In another amazing move, the producers retain the same editor Naveen Nooli and he know exactly what to rely on and what to edit.
Not only does Shahid get exactly the feature of Arjun’s father, but he also looks at the cricketer’s side with awe. He plays a lot with his expressions and reaches every mood right easily. Vidya has a lot of influence on what Arjun does in the film, And Mrunal also shows the dark side of the struggle with a wonderful hope. When Arjun fights, Vidya reveals how hard the struggle is for the whole family. Ronit Kamra, Shahid’s son, has acted in many scenes, not just one scene but multiple scenes on his subtle reactions. Without crossing any line, Ronit creates this subtle light around him by mastering every scene he plays. Pankaj Kapur plays a father-figure coach to Shahid Kapoor’s Arjun and the script smartly uses their real-life bond to add a comfortable depth on-screen.
This is Anirudh’s first Bollywood film to be composed and he is wielding his magic wand for this too. Shahid Kapoor continues to add some interesting innings in the second phase of his career and the jersey is definitely one of them.
Jersey – Interesting game
