Ayyappanum Koshiyum has been a surprise winner at the 68th National Film Awards. Ayyappanum Koshiyum bagged four awards for Best Director (Sachi), Best Supporting Actor (Biju Menon), Best Female Playback Singer (Nanjiamma) and Best Stunt Choreographer (Mafia Sasi, Rajasekhar and Sundar).
The best Malayalam film of the year was won by Senna Hegde’s rural comedy Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam. There was another big reason to cheer for Malayalam cinema. Although Aparna Balamurali won the best actress award for a Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, the Thrissur native has done most of her work in Malayalam cinema. This edition of the awards has proved to be one of the most rewarding awards for Malayalam cinema in recent times.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has congratulated the winners of the National awards. In a tweet, he wrote,
“Congratulations to all artistes who have won awards at the 68th National Film Awards. Malayalam cinema has again proved its mettle by bagging many prestigious awards, including the best director and female actor. Hope this will inspire them to conquer new greater heights.”
