This film is the Tamil dubbing of the Malayalam film “Trance”. Nilai Maranthavan is a film that makes you wonder from the beginning to the end whether it is a socially conscious film in Indian cinema.
Fahadh Fasil goes to Mumbai to forget his mentally ill brother committed suicide in Kanyakumari. He tries to find a job there. Gautham Menon, Vinod chemban, who created fake priests in Christianity and cheated the people of his religion and extorted crores of money. Fahadh Fasil belongs to Hindu religion, is given the job of impersonating a Christian priest, preaching religion and extorting money from the people. Fahadh who gains fame in a short span of time, leads a comfortable life. Gautham and Chemban, who make a living from him, make several crores. At some point, Fahadh feels that what he is doing is sinful. What happens after that? Tells the rest of the story of the film.
Even so, the director wonders if he can create a story, set up a thrilling screenplay, and make a film about a corporate gangster who cheats and survives in the name of religion. He has shed light on how innocent people are being duped. For that, we can give a big
applause to the director. In the end the pseudo-religious mob with a buoyant sentiment draws applause from the theatres.
Fahadh Fasil offers motivational speech classes in Kanyakumari. From there, the director has brilliantly transformed him into a fake priest who conducts a religious meeting. Fahadh Fasil threatens, scene after scene that no one else would have acted to this extent except Fahad Fasil. Even more so, the scenes where he arranges for people to heal the sick by talking furiously, shocks the viewers.
They have told the common people to understand that it is a group of robbers calling out the name of God. The director has given the right decision. Whether Fahadh and those who depend on him will never change. Gautham Menon and Vinod Chemban as corporate goons who extort money from innocent people of their religion, even though they belong to Christianity.
Nazriya comes only, after second half of the film. A character who is deceived in life by love. A woman with a drinking and drug addiction. Tamil fans will be shocked to see Nazriya in such a role. There has never been such a complete film in Tamil, why not even a single scene.
Some Tamil film directors, who have satirized Hindu preachers in several films, did not think of making a film about such fake religious preachers who earn crores from Christianity.
Although the film was released in Malayalam, could not say that they have dubbed it in Tamil. They have dubbed accordingly. Tamil subtitles are also powerpacked. A must watch movie for all Tamil cinema fans.
