With a worldwide box office gain of Rs 231 crore after just two days of release, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan shattered several box office records. These include the cast members’ own records as well as standards set by the whole industry.
Shah Rukh Khan’s return film Pathaan, which is expected to become one of the most popular Bollywood films of all time, has already smashed a number of records both in India and beyond. On a non-holiday weekday, the movie had the greatest opening day ever for a Hindi-language release. It also became the greatest foreign opening for a Bollywood film in history and became the first Bollywood film in history to earn more than Rs 100 crore worldwide on day one. As of right now, the movie has made an astounding Rs 231 crore in only two days. According to YRF, the day one gross was Rs 106 crore, while theatre chain Inox stated that the day two gross was somewhere around Rs 125 crore.
Pathaan was the biggest distribution ever for a Hindi film, playing in almost 8000 theatres in more than 100 nations. The movie had its Indian debut on almost 5000 screens, which is the largest release of a Hindi film to date. RRR, on the other hand, was distributed in around 10,000 theatres worldwide before becoming a cult favourite in the United States.
While Pathaan’s opening day revenue of Rs 57 crore is the highest ever for a Hindi film, it falls short of RRR’s net domestic revenue of Rs 133 crore from the previous year as well as KGF 2’s domestic revenue of Rs 116 crore. On day one, Pathaan brought in a total of Rs 106 crore. Additionally, RRR outperformed Pathaan on opening day in the United States, earning $3.4 million as opposed to Pathaan’s rumoured $1.5 million.
Given that it being a holiday, it should come as no surprise that Pathaan’s sales on day two were higher than they were on day one. The movie reportedly made more than Rs 70 crore on Thursday, the highest sum ever for a Hindi film in a single day.
The complete list of box office records that YRF asserts Pathaan broke is shown below:
First Hindi film to earn Rs 70 crore in one day.
Widest Hindi release of all time in India.
Highest-grossing first day for a Hindi film.
Highest-grossing first day for a non-holiday release.
Third YRF film to cross Rs 50 crore net box office collections on the first day, after War [Rs 53.35 cr] and Thugs of Hindostan [Rs 52.25 crore].

Additionally, Anand, who succeeded War, now has two of the best three openings in history. Anand has now produced the top two opening day grossers in Bollywood, if you take the dubbed Hindi version of KGF 2 out of the equation. Pathaan is the first film in YRF’s spy franchise, which now retrospectively includes the Salman Khan films Tiger and War with Hrithik Roshan. A second War movie has been rumoured, and Tiger 3 is soon to be released.
Shah Rukh will make a comeback in Atlee’s Jawan before starring in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. His first leading part in more than four years is in Pathaan.
