Box office results for Ponniyin Selvan 2: The first movie shattered several records at the box office and brought in Rs 500 crore globally, however the follow-up isn’t doing as well.
For the first time since its debut last week, the historical epic Ponniyin Selvan: II by director Mani Ratnam brought in a single-digit sum on Wednesday. The movie will probably gain momentum throughout the course of its second weekend after posting strong double-digit numbers for five straight days. Ponniyin Selvan: II made Rs 8 crore on Wednesday in India, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. The movie has currently earned over Rs 122.25 crore in India. The movie is very close to earning Rs 250 crore globally.
The highest occupancy for the Aishwarya Rai-starring film was 26.67% in Tamil, followed by 14.63% in Malayalam, 12.59% in Telugu, and 7.91% in Hindi.
Madras Talkies, Ratnam’s production company, tweeted on Tuesday that the movie had a strong foreign weekend as well. “The first weekend brought in almost 3.5 million dollars! I’m grateful for your affection. The tweet had stated, “#PS2 makes its mark at number 8 in the US weekend box office.
Ramesh Bala, a tracker for the entertainment sector, had stated that weekdays were “crucial” for Ponniyin Selvan 2 following a strong weekend performance. “Top 3 #Kollywood Grossers Ever at the Tennessee Box Office: #PS1 and #Vikram 3. #Viswasam #PS2 had a successful 4-day opening weekend in Tennessee. The second weekend and weekdays are essential.
The second part of Mani Ratnam’s two-part series, Ponniyin Selvan 2, is based on the same-titled epic novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The first movie also set a number of box office milestones and brought in Rs 500 crore globally. While the sequel is performing poorly at the box office, attention is focused on where it will ultimately end its final run.
A large ensemble cast, including Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, and Sobhita Dhulipala, is featured in the historical epic. The movie has been met with universally good reviews and has a triumphant opening.
