Selfie is a thriller film directed by debutant director Mathi Maran. The film stars GV Prakash and Gautham Vasudev Menon in the lead roles. Veteran actor Kalaipuli S Thanu has produced the film under his V Creations production banner. Music composed by G.V.Prakash.
When GV Prakash wanted to do business, his father was forced him to join an engineering course. Being a college student, he finds innocent people and gets college admission on commission basis. One day, during a deal, Gautam Menon, who runs a brokerage firm, gets into trouble. Thus begins their feud. After realizing that broking for seats for a commission can make one rich quickly, he engages in business with his friends and rises in the rankings very quickly. At the same pace, He gets into deep trouble. One of his best friends dies and How he gets out of this mess creates the rest of the movie.
The great strength of Selfie is its screenplay and writing. It explores the world of college-seat brokerage and explores how innocent parents are deceived by the larger body that includes college management.
GV Prakash comes with a restrained acting, and Gautam Menon is also highly composed and convinced that Ravi Varma is the leader of the broker scam. Kanal breaks down in front of his father in a beautiful scene that stands as a testament to their acting prowess.
As the film nears its climax, it loses its grip and the results were conveniently written. The engagement faces the same fate – until the middle of the second half, the picture is quite impressive. But in the end the picture is a bit predictable. Overall, the selfie has strong content, excellent acting of the fronts and a solid emotional base.
