Taanakkaran is a Police drama film directed by Tamizh. Produced by SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu under the banner of Potential Studios. The film stars Vikram Prabhu and Anjali Nair in the lead roles, while Lal, MS Bhaskar, Madhusudan Rao, Lingesh and many others in the supporting roles. The film airs on Disney + Hotstar.
The film is based on real life incidents from 1997 related to police training. Vikram Prabhu plays the role of Arivu. Police officers Muthupandi(Madhusoodan Rao) and Eeswaramoorthy(a threatening Lal) are the superintendents controlling the place. Those who hired in the name of training are subjected to severe torture both physically and mentally by these officers. When Arivu resists this, his colleagues along with him, face more torture. Whether they win by their differences of opinion creates the rest of the conspiracy of the self.
Director chooses a unique setting for Tamil film – Police Recruitment School. Cinematographer Madhesh Manickam has filmed this place very realistically. The place is a barren land, hot and dry, without even a colorful element. Madhesh’s cinematography gives us this perfect impression.
The love scenes between Anjali Nair and Vikram Prabhu do not fit exactly in the story of the film. Ghibran’s background music is as good as ever. Although it worked well individually, the Katikoda song became a speed breaker for the screenplay. There is nothing to complain about in the other songs. Cinematographer Madhesh Manickam does a great job of reviving the director’s vision.
Overall, the film is technically decent, while at the same time acting and creating environmental flaws. Taanakkaran shows a page of the police department that most of us do not see and captures the life details of the powerless people of a powerful department.
