Gold, directed by Alphonse Puthren, has received a clean U rating after clearing censorship procedures. This is his first film in seven years since the box office sensation Premam. With the team finally announcing that the film, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara, will now open in theatres on December 1, it is a huge relief for both the producers and the audience.
After the film’s release date was delayed once and Alphonse decided to reshoot some scenes, co-producer Listin Stephen last week announced the film’s tentative release date. However, he also expressed caution, saying that he hoped there wouldn’t be any further “twists” in the story.
A large cast of actors, including Roshan Mathew, Krishna Shankar, Deepti Sati, Vinay Forrt, Jagadish, Baburaj, Chemban Vinod, Ajmal Ameer, Shabareesh Varma, Saiju Kurup, Lalu Alex, Sudheesh, Prem Kumar, and Jaffer Idukki, appear in the film, which is billed as a dark comedy.
Prior to the pandemic, Alphonse was scheduled to work on the film Paattu, which starred Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara in the lead roles. Even the movie’s soundtrack, which the director had learned, was put on hold because of the lockdowns.
The filmmaker was then approached by Prithviraj with an offer to work on a project together. The actor stated in an interview from earlier this year that he had always wanted to work with Alphonse and that even after Gold, he would like to collaborate on additional films with the Neram director.
In fact, Prithviraj, who is also one of the co-producers of the film, reportedly said to give the director as much time as possible to ensure that he comes out with a final product that he is completely satisfied with, even when the director failed to submit the final copy before the initial scheduled date of release—in September 2022.
After Jana Gana Mana and Kaduva, Gold is the third album Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames have released this year.
