Although the Malayalam film industry has consistently produced high-quality movies, the epidemic has caused Mollywood’s material to gain recognition throughout all of India. With each Mollywood release enthralling the audience, the fanbase has only gotten bigger, and now industry filmmakers are choosing to release their films on OTTs to capitalise on the growing Malayalam film audience as well as the revenue stream that ensures the widest possible audience outside of Kerala. Untitled anthology based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s short stories

With a host of popular names, this untitled anthology based on acclaimed writer MT Vasudevan Nair’s short stories could be the biggest Malayalam OTT project at least in terms of the star power. With nine segments that are each about 40 minutes long, the anthology series is helmed by filmmakers who haven’t worked on the Nair’s scripts yet. 

Priyadarshan will be directing two featurettes – Shilalikhithangal with Biju Menon in the lead and Olavum Theeravum, which has Mohanlal as the protagonist. Mammootty will be starring in Ranjith’s featurette, which is based on MT Vasudevan’s visit to Kadugannawa in Sri Lanka. Santosh Sivan’s segment has Siddique as the central character, while Mahesh Narayanan and Fahadh Faasil will be teaming up for Sherlock. Rathish Ambat has directed Kadalkattu, which has Indrajith Sukumaran, Ann Augustine and Aparna Balamurali. 

Asif Ali and Madhoo will be seen in Ashwathy Vasudevan Nair’s segment, which is based on the short story, Vilpana, while Indrans, Surabhi Lakshmi, Renji Panicker and Nedumudi Venu are part of Jayaraj’s episode, Swargam Thurakunna Samayam.

Alone OTT release date

The thriller, in which Mohanlal and Shaji Kailas have been collaborating for 12 years, shot the whole script in a record-breaking 17 days. According to reports, Mohanlal is the only actor in the movie. Mohanlal and Shaji Kailas previously worked together in blockbusters like Narasimham and Aaraam Thampuran, therefore their next collaboration on Alone was eagerly anticipated.
