Cristiano rival fans taunted him by chanting the name of his long-time on-field rival, Lionel Messi.
Al Nassr, the squad of Cristiano Ronaldo, fell to Al-Ittihad 0–1 on March 9 in a Saudi Professional League game played at the King Abdullah Sports Complex in Jeddah. Their best player was unable to save his team from the close loss that also cost them the top place in the standings. They now are in second position in the 16-team league with 46 points after 20 games.
Rival supporters mocked Ronaldo by screaming the name of his longtime on-field foe, Lionel Messi, which only served to aggravate his wounds.
Many footage of fans shouting “Messi, Messi” towards Ronaldo may be seen on social media. Fans were particularly interested in a video of Ronaldo throwing a water bottle following his team’s poor performance and the abusive chants directed at him.
Speaking of Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner had shocked everyone in December of the year prior by relocating to Saudi Arabia.
He signed a lengthy two-and-a-half-year contract with the Saudi club, which is thought to be worth 200 million euros a year.
Nevertheless, Messi continues to play for the French team Paris Saint-Germain in Europe (PSG). Sadly, Messi and his team had a forgettable week this week as they were ousted from the UEFA Champions League.
The Bundesliga’s top team, Bayern Munich, overcame the Ligue 1 leaders over two legs in the Round of 16 matches.
