Will Smith banned by Academy from attending Oscars for 10 years after slapping Chris Rock

At the 94th Academy Awards on March 28, Hollywood actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock for making fun of his wife. It has become a topic of discussion on social web sites around the world.

Speaking on stage after the event, Oscar-winning actor Will Smith said, “Love can make you do crazy things like this.” Will Smith then issued a statement regretting his action. Will Smith also resigned as a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences).

The Oscars committee has banned Will Smith from attending the Oscars for 10 years. The move comes after a meeting of the academy’s board of governors to discuss actions against Smith. “The 94th Oscars were a celebration of the many people who have done incredible work in our community over the past year. However, Mr. Smith reveals those moments were obscured by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw on stage” the academy said in a statement.
