A look at what transpired prior to the IPL 2023 mini-auction, from retained players to trade windows.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has already started to be prepared for. Let’s take a look at the most recent information regarding the lucrative tournament as there are only a few days left before the player retention and trade windows must be finalized.
Punjab Kings (PBKS):
Shikhar Dhawan is set to serve as the team’s captain, according to recent news from the Punjab Kings. Prior to the IPL 2023 mini-auction, they’ll probably release Mayank Agarwal, their former captain. Prior to the IPL 2022 mega-auction, the former captain had previously been retained by Punjab Kings for a staggering sum of INR 12 Crore. Shahrukh Khan, an all-arounder, is also likely to be released by the team.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB):
The Bengaluru team traded their first player, Jason Behrendorff, to the five-time defending champion Mumbai Indians. For him, RCB had to pay INR 75 lakh. Behrendorff, incidentally, had previously competed in the MI in 2018.
Mumbai Indians (MI):
Former captain Kieron Pollard, another all-rounder from the West Indies named Fabian Allen, and England pacer Tymal Mills have all been released by the Rohit Sharma-led team.
They kept a total of ten players: Tilak Verma, Jofra Archer, Dewald Brewis, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Daniel Sams, Tim David, and Jofra Archer. Five players were cut by the team.
Gujarat Titans (GT):
The 2022 champion Gujarat Titans have traded Afghan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz and New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson to Kolkata Knight Riders just days before the IPL 2023 Retention Day deadline expires (November 13).
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR):
The Shreyas Iyer-led team will be looking for an offensive foreign opener and may give Alex Hales serious consideration. The English batter, who Kolkata had signed during the previous auction, withdrew because of bubble fatigue. Aaron Finch was able to be signed, but he did not have a productive season with the team.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK):
Ravindra Jadeja was retained by the MS Dhoni-led team after all the Ravindra Jadeja rumours were disproved. However, they will no longer be working with professional cricketers like Chris Jordan and Adam Milne and Mitchell Santner from New Zealand.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG):
Lucknow Super Giants will be attempting to strengthen their middle order as they enter their second IPL season. Although their list has not yet been released, they will undoubtedly be eager to release some players in order to raise some cash and increase their budget.
Rajasthan Royals (RR):
The Rajasthan Royals have all the bases covered, but some of their players have fallen short of expectations. Prior to the IPL 2023 mini-auction, the Sanju Samson-led team may release some players in front of the crowd.
