KV Anand birth anniversary: Revisiting the director’s best films
KV Anand was a brilliant director in Tamil cinema. The cinematographer-turned-director has directed several successful films and made invaluable contributions to the film industry. The talented filmmaker died in April 2021 as a result of a cardiac arrest, and the actor’s untimely death shocked the entire film industry. On the occasion of his birth anniversary, let us revisit five of his entertaining films.
Kana Kandaen
Kana Kandaen (I Had a Dream) is a 2005 Indian Tamil-language thriller film directed by K. V. Anand and produced by P. L. Thenappan. Srikanth, Prithviraj, Gopika, and Vivek star in the film. Vidyasagar composed the music, Soundarrajan shot the film, and V. T. Vijayan edited it. It was dubbed Muqabala in Hindi, Karthavyam in Telugu, and Kana Kandaen in Malayalam. The film was released on May 13, 2005.
Ayan
KV Anand collaborated with Suriya on his second directorial, ‘Ayan,’ and the intriguing crime thriller was a big hit. Suriya wore different outfits for his role in the film, which is about gold and diamond smuggling. Tamannah was the female lead, with Akashdeep Saighal, Prabhu, Karunas, and Renuka also playing important roles. Harris Jayaraj composed the music for the film, and the songs have been a huge success.
KO
Following the success of his previous film, KV Anand delivered another blockbuster, ‘KO,’ on a completely different subject. Jiiva was the lead, with Ajmal, Karthika Nair, and Pia Bajpai playing supporting roles. The film is full of twists and turns and had a successful theatrical run.
Maattrraan
The 2012 action-thriller movie Maattrraan was co-written and directed by K. V. Anand and was made by Kalpathi. AGS Entertainment is the production company run by S. Aghoram, S. Ganesh, and S. Suresh. Kajal Aggarwal and Suriya both play dual roles, and Sachin Khedekar, Tara, and other actors play supporting parts. The writers of the dialogues were Suresh and Balakrishnan. Harris Jayaraj wrote the music for the movie, Soundararajan did the photography, and Anthony did the editing. The visual effects were handled by V. Srinivas Mohan.
Anegan
For ‘Anegan,’ KV Anand chose to collaborate with Dhanush, and the film dealt with a mythical subject. Amyra Dastur played the female lead, and her chemistry with the dynamic actor served the film well. For the fourth time, Harris Jayaraj composed music for KV Anand’s directorial.
Kavan
The political thriller ‘Kavan,’ starring Vijay Sethupathi and KV Anand, explained how the media plays an important role in society. T Rajendar, Vikranth, Akashdeep Saigal, Pandiraj, Bose Venkat, Jagan, and Darshana Rajendran played important roles, as did Madonna Sebastian. KV Anand broke his long association with Harris Jayaraj as the film’s music was composed by Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi, surprising fans.
Kaappaan
KV Anand collaborated with Suriya for the third time on the suspense thriller ‘Kaappaan,’ and the 2019 Tamil release is about a locust attack. Sayyesha, Arya, Mohanlal, and Samuthirakani all played significant roles, and Harris Jayaraj composed the music. Suriya wowed fans with his versatile and stylish appearance. However, the film gained popularity after a real-life locust attack occurred in 2020.
