After 35 years, Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam reunite.
Two legendary names in Indian cinema are set to reunite 35 years after they first collaborated to create a landmark in the history of Indian cinema. Following the success of Nayagan, Kamal Haasan will collaborate with Mani Ratnam on a new project.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, one of the film’s co-producers, made the announcement. Udhayanidhi’s Red Giant Studios, Kamal’s Raaj Kamal Film International, and Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies will collaborate on the film.
The announcement was made with a video that introduces the production houses’ logos before revealing the film’s tentative title, KH 234. AR Rahman, who last scored Tenali in 2001, will compose the music for the film.
In a statement, Kamal Haasan says, “I was equally excited 35 years ago when I was about to start working with Mr Mani Ratnam.” It’s energising to work with people who share your perspective. Mr. Rahman is included in this stimulation. I’m excited to present this venture to Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin.”
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to join Kamal Sir in presenting Ulaganayagan KH 234 after the great success of Vikram and the much awaited Indian 2,” Udhayanidhi Stalin adds. It is an honour to present this film and tell this unique story. Kamal Sir and Mani Sir have been the pride of Tamil cinema around the world, and I have long admired both of them. Thank you, Kamal Sir, for this wonderful opportunity.”
Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam, R Mahendran, and Siva Ananth, a frequent collaborator of Mani Ratnam as an executive producer, will produce the film. More information about the project is currently being kept under wraps.
Kamal is currently working on Indian 2, while Mani Ratnam’s PS-2 is set to be released in the summer of 2023. The project is likely to move forward after their current commitments are completed.
