Christopher Nolan expressed his long-standing interest in Oppenheimer’s story, stating, “I’ve been fascinated by Oppenheimer’s story for quite some time. What struck me was the fact that, leading up to the Trinity test, there was a real concern that pressing that button could ignite the Earth’s atmosphere and obliterate the entire planet. Yet, they went ahead and pushed that button.
