Both “Varisu” and “Thunivu,” movies starring Vijay and Ajith, are set to compete at the box office during Pongal. They both debut on January 11. Both movies have a big budget, and demand for both has been rising. With 100 crores in pre-release revenue, Vijay’s movie leads Ajith starring in the “Varisu vs. Thunivu” battle. The theatrical rights of “Varisu” have reportedly been sold for Rs 70 crores, Rs 6.5 crores, Rs 8 crores, and Rs 35 crores in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and abroad, respectively. While the OTT rights were sold for Rs 70 crore and the Hindi version was sold for Rs 34 crore, respectively. Around Rs 295 crores have been made in ‘Varisu’s’ pre-release business overall.
The prices for Ajith’s “Thunivu” in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and abroad were, in contrast, Rs 60 crores, Rs 2.5 crores, Rs 3.6 crores, and R 4 crores. The Ajith starrer’s OTT rights have been secured for Rs 65 crores, while the pre-release revenue for the movie is said to have totaled Rs 194 crores. Comparatively speaking, “Varisu” has made more than Rs 100 crores in pre-release revenue than “Thunivu,” and Vijay wins the second set to tie with Ajith after losing the trailer war in the first set.
Varisu, a moving family drama starring Vijay, is being directed by Vamshi Paidipally. Contrarily, H Vinoth’s heist thriller “Thunivu,” which stars Ajith, will be plenty of action scenes. Both of Ajith and Vijay’s upcoming flicks, which span two distinct genres, are expected to do very well at the box office during Pongal.
