Bommai Nayagi Movie Review: The movies that Pa Ranjith sometimes produces have an impact in a way that few others do. It’s not surprising that his home studio is producing a movie about the downtrodden and their struggle for justice, but how is it done with so many different emotions and sensibilities each time? Shan’s film Bommai Nayagi depicts a poor father’s never-ending battle for the rights of his daughter, age 9, who is the victim of sexual assault.

Bommai Nayagi has a profound impact on us in many ways, despite the fact that in recent years, we have seen several films about young girls being abused and their families’ struggle.

Yogi Babu’s character Velu is introduced to us as being extremely innocent, sceptical of demonstrations, and frequently wanting to avoid problems. His modest family is everything to him, and he works at a tea store in Cuddalore. The early sequences’ opening images eloquently capture the special relationship he has with his wife, daughter (Bommai Nayagi), and other family members. An horrible event shatters his life just when things appear to be going well and moving him toward realising his ambition of running a tea store. During a festive season, Bommai Nayagi is the victim of sexual abuse by two powerful upper-caste males.

Velu feels helpless despite knowing the identities of those responsible for this horrific act. He resolves to fight for justice with the assistance of his Marxist-leaning pals, nevertheless, after realising that individuals he trusts sought to hide this. The rest of the tale focuses on the hardships the family must endure as a result of societal injustice and legal system inadequacies.

The sensitivity in the handling, particularly when dealing with such difficulties, is Bommai Nayagi’s finest feature. Instead of only showing us the suffering of the downtrodden, the director gives us advice on how to deal with the big heads. An excellent illustration of how such subjects may be addressed on the big screen is Shan’s writing and visual portrayal of such topics.

Yogi Babu’s character development is only a portrayal of the average man, complete with faults, weakness, and naivety. Some scenes are compelling enough to draw us into his life and the hardships his family has experienced. During the temple festival, Velu’s daughter, who bears the name of the village deity, is violently tortured. Isn’t it ironic?

Director Shan adds another another surprise that heightens the turmoil just as we believe justice has been done and the perpetrators have been found guilty. The emotions we are dealing with here are really unpleasant and genuine, and none of the characters are larger-than-life. Hard-hitting conversations are those that emphasise the value of education and how it could alter the society they represent.

The emotional passages are enhanced by Sundaramurthy KS’s background music and singing. Here, the most efficient technique to frighten the audience is by using the noises of explosions and crackers.

Watch notice for Subatra’s performance; she portrays Yogi Babu’s wife. However, if any other actor had been cast in place of Yogi Babu, this movie would have had less of an effect. This guy is the star. His constant expression of helplessness is striking and draws our attention to him.

Bommai Nayagi is a powerful social drama that handles a delicate subject in the best way possible. We feel a great deal of drama in it. worth a look.
