A lawyer has sent a legal notice to the director Mani Ratnam, accusing him of misrepresenting historical facts about the Cholas in the film Ponniyin Selvan. The history of the Chola kings who ruled Thanjavur, the film is based on the popular novel “Ponniyin Selvan” written by kalki.
In a notice sent by lawyer Selvam from Korukkuppet, Chennai shows that the historical details are hidden in the film Ponniyin Selvan as the Cholas did not have a “Tilagam/Tilak”(traditional mark). Actor Vikram, who plays the role of “Adiththa Karigalan” in the film, was seen with a Tilagam/Tilak on his forehead. Before the film was released in theatres, the lawyer demanded a special screening for him to examine whether the film crew had concealed historical facts. Also, the legal notice threatens legal action if the film is released without screening first. Famous actors like Vikram and the producer of the film have been warned. As of now, Director Mani Ratnam or actor Vikram have yet responded to this notice.
