Minions: The Rise of Gru is an American computer-animated comedy film produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures. This film is the sequel to the spin-off prequel Minions (2015). It is the fifth entry overall in the Despicable Me franchise. Directed by Kyle Balda, co-Directed by Brad Ableson and Jonathan del Val. The film stars Steve Carell as Gru, Pierre Coffin as the Minions. Also stars including Taraji P. Henson, Michelle Yeoh, RZA, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lucy Lawless, Dolph Lundgren, Danny Trejo, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, and Alan Arkin.

Set in the 1970s, a few years after the events of the first film, 12 year old Gru is growing up in the suburbs. Gru, a fan of a group of supervillains known as the Vicious 6, plans to become evil enough to join them. When the Vicious 6 oust their leader, the legendary fighter Wild Knuckles, Gru interviews to become their newest member. That did not go well and with the help of Kevin, Stuart, Bob, Otto and other allies, the crew stole a precious stone from them and suddenly found himself the enemy of death. In the flow, Crew turns to Wild Knuckles, an unlikely source of guidance and discovers that even the bad guys need a little help from their friends.

Minions: The Rise of Gru had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on 13 June 2022. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on 01 July 2022, by Universal Pictures.
