The Black Phone is an American supernatural horror film directed by Scott Derrickson. Movie written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, who both produced with Jason Blum. The film is an adaptation of the 2004 short story of the same name by Joe Hill. The film stars Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, James Ransone, and Ethan Hawke. In the film, an abducted teenager uses a mysterious phone to communicate with the previous victims of his captor. Cinematography was done by Brett Jutkiewicz. Editing by Frederic Thoraval. Music for the film was composed by Mark Korven.
Five children are missing in suburban Colorado. Young baseball pitcher Finney Shaw finished sixth, a serial killer known as “The Grabber” who fainted and found a way. Finney wakes up in the soundproof basement with the phone disconnected. He quickly learns of the phone’s ability to send the voices of grabber’s previous victims, who want to help him to escape. Meanwhile, Finney’s sister Gwen experiences nightmares, which send her on a quest to find him.
The Black Phone is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States by Universal Pictures on 24 June 2022. The Black Phone will be available to digital stream on Universal’s Peacock website 45 days after its theatrical debut.
