“Badhaai Ho” is a blockbuster film released in 2018 starring Ayushman Khurana in Bollywood. The film is currently being remade in Tamil under the title “Veetla Vishesham”. The film was directed by R.J. Balaji and N.J. Saravanan.
The movie starring Urvashi, Sathyaraj, Yogibabu, Aparna Balamurali, Mayilsami, R.J. Balaji and many others. The film is produced by Boney Kapoor.
The story revolves around an ordinary middle class family. Railway employee Unnikrishnan (Sathyaraj), his wife Krishnaveni (Urvashi), and their two sons – Ilango (R.J. Balaji), Anirudh (vishvesh) and grandmother Ammulu (KPAC Lalitha). Krishnaveni and Unnikrishnan are loving couples. One day krishnaveni realised that she became pregnant. Krishnaveni decides to have a baby, however, it depends on how the community around them reacts to the news, especially their two sons. Will Ilango and Anirudh understand this fact and accept the decision of the parents? Tells the rest of the story.
R.J. Balaji and crew are close to the original story here, making only minor changes to the ingredients that add local flavor to this global story. Some changes, such as doing Ilango’s career. The seemingly progressive biology teacher. It also seems good intention to add the angle that women have the right to choose between a normal birth and a cesarean delivery, although the manufacturers here are somewhat reluctant. This film beats us with its truly progressive outlook.
In fact, the whole picture has a slightly louder tone compared to the original. KPAC Lalitha as Grandma is another interesting acting choice and she is fantastic in some scenes that focus on her. But when R.J. Balaji is effective in comedy scenes – the scene where his girlfriend Soumya (Aparna Balamurali) secretly enter his flat – the emotion subsides.
One great thing about the Vetla Vishesham is that the film never tries to recreate the original story. Just like this is a remake, you can feel that a lot of effort has been put into writing the comedy and drama part according to the local sentiments.
