The film Jai Bhim, produced by actor Suriya’s 2D production company, was directed by director Gnanavel. Suriya, Manikandan, Lijomol Jose, Prakash Raj and others acted in this film. There were complaints that the scenes in Jai Bhim, which was released on OTT last year, were intended to insult the Vanniyar community. Subsequently, the said scene was removed from the film. Director Gnanavel apologized in this regard.
After that, the Velacherry police filed a case against actor Surya and director T.S.Gnanavel claiming that the film Jai Bhim was a satirist with an intention against religious sentiments. The Velachery police had taken action on the complaint filed by Santhosh on behalf of the Srirudra Vanniyar Seva organization. Jai Bhim director Gnanavel and actor Surya have petitioned the Madras High Court to quash the case and stay its investigation. The petition came up for hearing before Justice Sathishkumar. At that time, even before filing this complaint, the controversial scenes in the film had been deleted, It was also argued that there was no evidence to suggest that the scenes were set up to denigrate a particular community. Accepting these arguments, the judge has ordered to quash the case against actor Suriya and director Gnanavel.
